7 reasons why golf is one of the most special sports you can start playing
Golf has a special reputation. Many see it as a complicated sport, others as a peaceful game in nature, and still others as something that is not for everyone. The truth is much more pleasant. Golf is accessible, logical, pleasant for the body and mind, and at the same time extremely sociable.
As a golf instructor with many years of experience, I meet people almost every week who find something in golf that they never expected. Maybe it will be the same for you.
You can play golf your whole life.
This is one of the most beautiful features of this sport. Children experience it as a game, adults as a challenge, and the elderly as an ideal combination of exercise, companionship and nature. Golf is not a sport that depends on strength or speed, so you can play it without any problems even in your later years. Many players in their seventies or eighties still play all eighteen holes and genuinely enjoy it.
To hit a good shot, you don't need strength, you need technique.
Golf rewards understanding, not force. A good grip, body rhythm, and steady balance are far more important than physical strength. I often see complete beginners, after a few proper explanations, start hitting better shots than people who practice on their own. Golf is a game of feel and technique, not physical superiority.
Golf is the perfect combination of nature, focus and calmness
If you feel like your mind is racing too fast, golf is the perfect counterbalance. Surrounded by trees, meadows and open spaces, the body calms down and the mind focuses on one simple task . For many, this is the best way to switch off. Golf allows you to be relaxed and focused at the same time, which is extremely valuable in today's fast-paced world.
Golf opens up new acquaintances
Group lessons, a game of golf or a Texas scramble are great opportunities to make new friends. Spending an hour or two with other players in a relaxed atmosphere quickly creates bonds. Many beginners tell me that they met people on the course who they now play or hang out with regularly. Golf connects people.
Golf teaches you self-control and patience
It's a sport that quickly shows what state your head is in. If you're tense, the ball will fly out tense. If you relax, you'll see it immediately in your shot. Golf develops patience, focus, and the ability to think clearly. Many people tell me that the game also benefits them in everyday decision-making and stress management.
Golf is more accessible than most people realize
It used to be thought that golf was expensive and difficult to start. Today, that is no longer true. You don't need your own equipment or membership fees to take your first steps. There are programs like Slovenia Plays Golf, where you can enter the world of golf very affordably, with equipment included and clear guidance. Golf is more accessible than ever before.
Progress rewards you quickly
The first clean contact with the ball, the first straight flight, the first chip over the bunker, the first putt that goes in the hole. These moments are incredibly motivating and quickly draw you into the game. Golf rewards you with small but significant successes that remind you every time why you started.
